I just downloaded the ablity to switch to icloud, I can receive emails but cannot send any. What can I check to see how to correct this?

Your profile states that you are using 10.6.8, 10.7.2 or better is required for iCloud.
You can however still use mail with 10.6.8, unfortunately you cannot use the rest of the iCloud features.
Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.

I completed the download, and the reply said after June 30th I'm set for icloud, (I did not export my contacts as yet) but now I cannot send mail. I can receive it though. HELP!!
