Can I observe a unit without asking permission?

It is possible to observe units without requesting permission? I want to be able to verify software updates to system without a physical body having to grant me permission to do so. Thanks in advance.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

If the workstation has had the appropriate ARD access set up for an account with administrator privileges and you can connect using that account, then no permission will be required to observe or control the workstation or perform any other function.
