Q: MacBook Pro Boot Problem

Hello, I have a 15" 2008 MacBook Pro running Lion. I went to boot it up this morning and it didn't boot, I looked over and the progress wheel had stopped spinning. I also noticed that on the left-hand side there was a small black bar that turned white about 9/10s of the way up. The bar was maybe half a centimeter thick.

I've tried rebooting a few times, it didn't work. I searched Google on my PC for solutions and saw that Booting Into Safe Mode was the common fix. Tried that and after checking the volume the wheel eventually stops spinning again. I tried clearing the PRAM and it filled about 1/3 of my screen with green bars, and the wheel still stops spinning after a bit. As a last ditch effort I attempted putting in my Snow Leopard install disc and attempted to boot that and reformat. The wheel spins and the disc drive is active but after a few minutes I get a grey screen prompting me to restart.

This has happened to me once before, except before I was in the middle of a Skype call and my screen started flashing purple and everything was randomly textured. It corrected itself after a day or two. Last night I received a Skype call, however I didn't answer it, but I feel the problem may be tied to either Skype or Call Recorder, although after this happened the first time I completely removed both apps and their data and reinstalled fresh copies.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's some pictures from after I cleared the PRAM.
