I did a home screen reset and lost some icons.i tried to sync and it did not help what can I do?

What apps did you lose? Did you search for them with the spotlight search on the iPad? Swipe to the right from the first home screen to get to the search field.
Did you swipe from screen to screen to look for them? Are they apps that you may have set restrictions for? Settings>General>Restrictions?
iTunes - connect device by cable (for ease of use) Click on ipad icon in itunes pane at left, then browse to the apps tab when the summary page displays. See what's ticked and verify your sync data - what's displayed here (ticked/unticked) and the screen arrangements will be transferred to your ipad on sync.
Home screen reset will delete any apps not factory default - they will appear in iTunes without ticks in their sync boxes. Retick rearrange and resync.
