water damage

so i washed a friends ipod in the washing machine...i know stupis...i immidatley placed it in the rice like everyone says to do but the screen still wont come on. i plugged it into the computer and all the music is there and it reads it but nothing on the screen...any advice or will i be going out to buy a new one???
