I just had that problem and this is what I did to solve it:

Go to the "Password and Security" section. And on that page it will list your apple id's rescue email. You can change/delete it there.

I deleted my rescue email so I could use it as my primary apple id email.

Hope this helps.

Yup, exact same problem. I suddenly don't feel so alone anymore. 🙂 I've been locked out of my account for 8 hours now, and I've already sent an email to which to the response was "You'll have to contact the Apple Security team". I'm going to give them a call on Monday if nothing works out... (But someone earlier said it was all automated. :/ I really hope this works out.)

Has anyone else fixed their problem?

Hi Racer42 and others wanting help.

I am happy to help all of your problems.

Firstly would you go to:

https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/directToSignIn

Type in your username and password. This information is simply your Apple ID and your iTunes information, so your iTunes email and password.

You will see you are in the tab: Name, ID and Email Addresses

Scroll Down until you see: Notification Email Address and Alternate Email Addresses and Alternate Apple ID.

An Alternate Apple ID allows you to have an email address generally iCloud that can do everything that your dominate Apple ID account does just using a different email address. So you can buy songs/apps/everything on either your default Apple ID or your Alternate Apple ID. These email addresses of Notification Email Address and Alternate Email Addresses will allow you to receive information regarding your account security whenever you change your Apple Security setting. To add an email address click the plus sign and add it. You will need to however sign in to that email and click on the verification link to verify that the account is real and exists. Your notification email address will be used in addition to your primary email address to notify you when changes are made to your account. Your Alternate Email Address allows you to have notifications and other Apple Information sent to these accounts.

Basically there is no such thing as a rescue email. As Apple products do not include an email they allow you to use an email. Rescue email accounts are for email accounts that could be broken/stolen and therefore you set other emails up to restore one if one gets broken/stolen.

If you have forgotten you Apple ID password go to: https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid

Type in your Apple ID - your main email address for iTunes then you can set a password by either answering security questions or by clicking on an email link.

Your rescue type email (same idea but not what it is called) account is defaulted to your Apple ID account and if you forget this account your Notification Email Address and Alternate Email Addresses can help you to send links to change passwords and change email accounts if a problem arises. However you Alternate Apple ID email can be used just like your default email address and so you can continue using your Apple product.

If you enable Alternate Apple ID address you will be able to use another email address and password as your default Apple ID account in conjunction with your default Apple ID. So if something does go wrong with your default email you can use your Alternate Apple ID and continue with your day.

Many thanks in allowing me to help you with this issue.

I look forward to hearing from you soon with a reply in regards to this issue.

Could Apple make this any more difficult!

If I follow the appleid link provided by a couple different members above, I don't get a "Manage Your Account" link on the right. There is a "Manage Your AppleID" button. So if I click that and log in, there is no column on the left with any links (i.e. no Password and Security link).

Why is everything Apple related so ridiculously complicated?! I was going to switch from Android phone to an iPhone next month but forget it if I have to deal with this kind of crap!
