Email recipient is rejected as server does not allow relaying

Hi there

I wondered if there is someone that can help me. I have an iphone 3g and have my aol email account set up on the phone. It was working fine before I went away on holiday but since I have returned I am unable to send emails as iit keeps saying that the recipient has been rejected as the server does not allow relaying.

I did not use my phone while I was away except for texting so didn't change any settings. I have read through similar questions and have tried all of different things suggested (turning off wifi, although it was never on wifi it was using 3g), making sure that both the primary server and the other SMTP servers are set as on and the details are filled out but still nothing works.

Originally it was only set up with the primary server ticked as on and I never had a problem with it. I've also tried turning the phone off and on again several times and tried the power off and holding down the home key at the same time.

Is there any one who could offer some further advice as it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Sam

Hi, I've tried doing this again but it's still not working. I seem to be able to receive messages ok but cannot send a new message or reply to any messages.

It was fine before I went on holiday, the problem has occured since I got back. The only setting I changed while I was away was switching to airplane mode whilst on the plane so that I could listen to music.

I've also tried logging on to wifi at home as well as 3G but it still doesn't work.

Hi there

Yes it seems to be working again now. I tried all sorts of combinations that other people had suggested but nothing seemed to work. I stumbled across another suggestion on a forum which seemed to work.

What I have done is gone into settings, email, contacts etc. Gone into accounts, AOL, outgoing mail server, the primary server had smtp.aol.com which I turned to off. In the section below 'Other SMTP servers' i have another which says 'smtp.aol.com' and have turned that to on. It now seems to work and I can send email again.

I don't know why it suddenly worked doing that, I think it may have been more luck than judgement as I'd tried for days to get it working.

Let me know how you get on.
