Q: Cracked Screen

My friend got an Ipod Classic 5 years ago from today and he can't see the screen that well. The screen is cracked and its hard to see the screen when the backlight is on (only when its off). He is considered on buying a used Ipod at a Pawn Shop (witch I would do the same). Is it possible to replace a cracked screen or does he need to replace the Ipod???

iPod classic, Windows 7

Yes.  You can have a cracked screen replace.  You pay to have Apple do an out-of-warranty replacement of the device. See here for pricing: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/

Another option would be to locate a third party service center who can actually replace just the damaged LCD screen for a lot less than what Apple charges. Google for "iPod Classic screen repair" and you should get a plethora of results to work with.

Lastly, you can always purchas a new LCD screen from eBay, Amazon, or a parts dealer and use one of the many numerous guides online to replace it yourself.
