Q: airport extreme  &  aiprport express &  cable router

My cable company is making me use a Aris wireless router/cable modem.  I have an airport extreme (n) and airport express (n) that I would rather use because the one from the cable company is weak and doesn't reach my whole house (only the room it is located).  Does anyone know how to set up the network with the extrerme as the base station and ignore the wireless signal from the Aris?  How about using the express to extend the network? Thanks in advance.

AirPort Express 802.11n (1st Gen), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

You have a number of options. One that I suggest that you have identified, is to disable the Aris router's wireless radio, but leave its NAT & DHCP services enabled. That is, allow it to continue to be your "main" Internet router.

You would then connect the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) to it via Ethernet, and then, configure the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to extend it.

In this configuration, the Aris would provide Internet connectivity to any network client connected to any of the routers.

Tip:  rename the arris router with a different ssid first (if you want to use the same Network name).  Go into the router admin page (192.168.2.1), diasble wireless, then apply the changes. I had to reboot my arris to apply the changes (unplug from the wall for 10 secs).
