Can someone tell me why Imessage doesn't work on wifi on my iPod touch 4?

Have you tried everything here?
Why does it not work? What is happening? Are you positive you are trying to message somebody else who has an iOS device running iOS 5 or later and is registered to use iMessages?

I try to sign in with my apple ID but it just says it can't connect. I just got it today and everything's installed, set up correctly.
Did you go through each of the troubleshooting steps provided in the Apple support document above?

Yes I have but in settings it says go to iMessages and turn on but when I go there it just says activate and I just don't know lol. Maybe I'm technology challenged haha.
What happens when you choose Activate?

I have an iPod touch 4. When I click onto iMessages it says sign with your apple ID so I do and it says iMessage action could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again. My internet is working just fine and idk why it won't sign in.
Try go to settings then iMessage then turn it on then off
I went to settings but it doesn't say turn on or off it says sign in with your apple ID to activate.

I'm pretty sure what it means is that over the first 90 days of having the iPod you can ring them and they will help you set it up
Did you make sure the Date and Time are correctly set in the Settings for your device? Head to Settings -> General -> Date & Time to make sure the Automatic setting is turned On.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network and see if it works there.
