Weird battery indicator

Hi , I've recently noticed that the battery percentage indicator on my iPhone 4 is not accurate/spoilt . The phone switches off when the battery percentage indicates 22% . It's like the 22% is "2%" on a normal iphone , you get what i mean ? When i plug in to charge , the phone switches on again and shows a 22% charging . I tried restoring my phone but it wont work . I also tried resetting by pressing home and lock button but it still won't work . I can't drain it to 0% because the meter won't go down to zero before the phone switches off , so i cant do a full recahrge to recalibrate my phone battery . Has anyone else faced this issue ? Any suggestions as to what I can do to sort it ?

Thankyou , Shivonne .

Mine has done this for a long time. First time happened after about 2 months of owning the phone, took it to the genius bar 3 times and then finally they couldn't figure it out and replaced the phone. 2 months after that, the problem started again with the new phone and I went to genius bar again 3 times and they said they don't know what it is. I have noticed that the longer you let it happens, the more battery is left before it dies. Starts at 22%, then 33%, then 44% all the way up to 66% was my experience. After it shut down I let it be off for about 1-2 hours to let it completely die, then I charged it to 100% and did a hard reset. It still does it, in fact it did it today, but about once per month I do this and it seems to help. Genius bar is no help, along with all the suggestions of it being a hardware issue.

Yes, recalibrate by running the phone down till it shuts off, then charge till full. But a wall charger, not USB. Same thing happened to me. They all said it was a hardware problem so I just resigned myself to bearing it. But after starting to charge with a wall charger more often with a wall charger, the problem suddenly resolved. I can't believe I nearly sold off the phone
