How do i change from NTSC to PAL?

Question

How do i change from NTSC to PAL?

In the iMovie HD Help it says that iMovie automatically chooses whether you have the NTSC or PAL format.

The trouble is, that it has chosen the NTSC format when im using PAL. If anyone knows how to change the format of the movies you make (not exporting), it would be much appreciated.

One way to start a new project in PAL format is by going into the Preferences in iMovie HD.

under the GENERAL tab you can change the "New Project Frame Rate" settings to 25 fps and that should do the trick.

If you have a 29.97 fps project open (NTSC) and you want to change it to PAL, that's a different story. Let us know if that's what you want to do.

Hi Kell,

I've read some reports here about "wrong video standard"... as the Help files says, that is been set automatically with the first import form tape...

my guess is, many users launch iM by double clicking onto an existing demofile in the wrong mode OR import some stills OR start with some titles..

Do as ML wrote: start with an EMPTY project, set prefs to 25fps for PAL and 30fps for NTSC, import from your camera.... THEN do whatever you want....

I tried the suggested "tricks" with success. Im not sure why starting a new project at 25 fps would change the video format, does PAL only use up to 25 fps?

yepp, the main difference (besides many, many more) between NTSC and PAL is the framerate 30 vs 25

that has to do with different powersupply, you have 110V/60HZ, we use 240V/50HZ and for making things simple, TVs use half the Hertz....

PAL has a higher resolution and a "better" color correction (it's the younger system, Herr Bruch invented it 1963)... in case you're interested, you find good articles at wiki.....
