Would a crack in the MacBook Pro display cause a similar "fade-to-white" symptom as a bad graphics processor?

A cracked screen (LCD) or the glass that covers the LCD? I'm a little confused what is cracked? Is your LCD operating with the crack?

My guess is that the fading is due to the incident that caused the crack.
