why am i directed to the US store when I live in the UK
I live in the UK and cannot purchase from a US store. How can I change Itunes / Apps store to direct me to the UK store and allow me to purchase from there?

Are you being asked for dollars or pounds? Once your account is open you should be charged in your national currency.
