Help with Apple TV1 - not starting.

My Apple TV 1 is not starting. There is only an amber blinking light with no video signal or any other sign of operation (no noise from hard drive). I have tried the reset with the remote control with no success. Any recommendations ?

If you've unpowered it and left it for a few mins and you get the same it's likely to be a catastrophic hardware failure - probably the PSU, GPU or logic board.

One of mine did that, I dismantled it, hard drive was ok, but I could not get it to start. I have a few others so am keeping that one for spares.

There is no repair service AFAIK which is poor.

Yes, most people I think would expect a longer lifespan than 14 months, but devices fail rather randomly and you'll see all manner of goods that fail after days/weeks or go on for many years.

Have you tried a local Apple Store?

If you took out the Apple Care 2 year warranty cover it would probably still be covered.

As far as 'out of warranty' expectations and laws these differ from country to country - many countries will have laws that say a product should last a reasonable amount of time before failing. You need to look to consumer laws where you live
