why can i not download a dvd of which i own to my libary

can i download dvd's of which i have been paid for with out having to go through a 3rd party softwere to place them in my itunes library.

No, you can't.


You remember that FBI warning you see at the beginning of every movie you have on DVD? That's why. The film industry has a very effective lobby (and contrary to popular belief, it's not about conservative/liberal. It's about the Benjamins). They are not bound by the same rules of appropriate reuse and copy that typically applies to music.


Some studios offer digital copies, but rarely in forms that are compatable with iOS. And usually for only a short while.
