Q: iTunes Keeps Asking Me To Authorise My Compuer

I have been using my Windows 7 laptop for quite a while now. For the past 6 months or so (yes this has been going on for that long) whenever I purchase an album off the iTunes store a number of songs (usually around half) ask me to authorise my computer to play/ sync. them. Obviously, my computer is already authorised (the only only), and I am all out of ideas.

I have already tried every little bit of help that Apple has provided me, with no success. And staff I have been emailing are next to usless.

I have noticed when I go to Get Info. that songs I can play has both Purchased By and my Account Name, while the songs I keep being asked to authorise only have my Account Name listed.

Please help! This is an ongoing and ridiculously frustrating problem, costing me both time and money.

iPod classic, Windows 7

Loopdeloop13's suggestion fixed the problem for me.

After weeks of no help from Apple at all, the solution was very similar to the solution for the different problem that I had with the last album that I downloaded from iTunes.  In that case, iTunes tech support was no help either.

Now the songs on the album are all out of order, but at least I can listen to what I purchased.

No wonder piracy is such a problem..... it's far easier than purchasing the music legitimately from iTunes and having to fight for days to listen to what you purchased.

Is there a reliable, non-bug-infested, source to purchase digital music from?  Or should I just steal?

    Amazon.

I ALWAYS get my music from there first. I only get from Apple if they are the only source.

I am now doing the same with movies. I generally prefer renting from Apple, because you can actually download the movie (good for 14-hour flights).

Otherwise, I use Amazon for everything I can.

    Basically, DRM isn't worth it.

People who want to break it will always break it.

People who don't (like me) will just not use DRM-infected products unless there are absolutely no choices. When Apple first started the iTunes Store, there were no alternatives. That is no longer the case. The Amazon MP3 Store is every bit as good. Occasionally, there are one or two tracks (I like obscure stuff) that I can only get from Apple. Otherwise, it's always Amazon.

I am a 50-year-old manager that makes decent money. I buy almost all my music (a LOT of music). The few rare cases where I have LimeWired (not for many years) have been ones where something was not available in any store. I'd rather pay for decent quality than get crap for free.

The Fairplay DRM is annoying as ****. Apple is lying when they claim their music is DRM-free (iTunes Plus), these days. Try playing iTunes songs on an unauthorized device (something I very rarely do, but, on occasion, I may want to play something on my unauthorized work computer).

If you click on store at the top the menu will drop down and you should see Authorize Computer there.

I had the same problem of not being able to download my songs purchased from I tunes. Just authorize your computer and it will download your songs.

Nightmare. I seem to have three apple IDs, all the ssame, but one  @mac.com, and one with @me.com (fortunatley same passsword) and one with just my user ID (no @me, no @mac). It's that third one that is the problem. It is the only apple id my iPhone recongnizes. Mac support could not help.  I get in and endless cycle of being asked to change my password. Cannot download any new apps and cannot synch any apps from computer to iPhone. Cannot update any apps either. How I ever got apps on my iphone at all is now a mystery to me.

In my case nothing worked, what's strange is that I can play the m4a file in the "Finder" but the iTunes keeps asking me for the password.

Follow this advice...it works! Don't follow the suggestions of Apple...they'll get you nowhere. Thanks, loopdeloop13!!!

Easier fix: go back to Itunes Store and purchase the song again. You will be told that you have already purchased it and asked if you want to get it again for free. Just say yes. I have not verified that the second purchase was free of charge, but it works.

I have tried all of the options here as I have the same problem, but without any luck. I deleted the song from the hard drive but I am not given the option to redownload from iTunes.

I get this same problem on my laptop all the time...except, the songs it says I have authorize are ones I made myself from my own cds in ITunes. It always tells me my computer is already authorized and then allows me to play the song, but this is just plain stupid. I can understand some issues with songs purchased on ITunes that have DRM on them, but it's BS that I have authorize homemade, DRM-free mp3s. This has been an issue for as long as I've had ITunes on my laptop and upgrades to the software hasn't fixed it.

I had this same problem, so I tried deleting the song from my iTunes library and my hard drive, and then redownloading it from the iTunes Store. The song was not on my "Purchased" playlist and the song still had the "$.99" next to it on the store page, so I thought I would have to pay for it again, but after I put in my password and confirmed the purchase it brought up a message that said I had already bought the song and that I could redownload it for free. I was very pleased!

Try signing out of itunes and signing back in. It will ask to authorize again once youve signed back in (authorize it again). It worked for me! Good Luck =)
