My i pod touch doen't turn on at all whether it is connected to my computer that is turned on and running. Do you have any suggestions.

My i pod touch is not turnning on at all whether it is connected to my computer that is turned on and running of a while. I tried all the troubleshooting tips that was provided by apple. It seemed that the battery is drained out. Can this occur if not used for an exteneded period of time. Does any one have any suggestion what I should do.
