I have office 2004 for my Imac. I installed Lion and now when I open word or excel the error message says "You can't open MS Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported" I have an inteo based iMac and neverthought I had a power PC. Do I HAVE to purchase the new version of MS Office Suite. If so I wish I never downloaded Lion.
Yes, Office 2004 is not supported on Lion because IT is a PPC program. You'll have to upgrade.

I ran into the same quandry when looking to upgrade to Lion and chose not to for several software applications that weren't supported in Lion. You have a couple of choices, upgrade all the other software that isn't supported or go back to Snow Leopard. To go back you'll have to format your harddrive and reinstall from your boot cd. Back up all your stuff first.

The way I was trying to link you to was to create a partition on your HD and install Snow Leoprd there and you can boot in either Lion or SL at the start disk option. Best of both worlds I guess.🙂
When I went from my G5 Power Mac to my new IMac I tried the Office 2004 suite but had several problems. I then installed a new copy of Office 2011 but again had several more problems. In the end I had to do a complete uninstall of my Office 2004 and re install 2011, all is OK now.
