internet explorer and red "x"

internet explorer and red "x"

I created a site in iWeb and put it on my server via Dreamweaver. When I view the page in any browser but Internet Explorer, it looks just fine, but in IE, there are red "x" everywhere. I have no idea how to correct this issue.

I don't see any. What platform/version of IE are you talking about?

thanks for the reply. I am using IE 6 for PC. The page displays just fine in Firefox and Safari.

You page also looks fine on IE for Mac.

Is there any change if you set View > Encoding to UTF-8?

there is no change. I am at a complete loss. I don't understand...the page views just fine on IE through .mac, but it is whenever I send it through dreamweaver that it seems to be problematic.

It is possible for an ftp program to muck up characters, but this would affect all browsers, not just Win IE. Here's a note that talks about this:

cbaggs - I see the Xs. I'm using IE on a Windows machine. They are graphic place holders. Usually, they only appear when your graphics do not show up, but I also see your graphics. Sorry, I have no solution for this. I just wanted you to know that someone else sees them. I'll keep watching this thread for a solution. All the best -- Fabe

Is it possible that the problem is with PNG images? Some older browsers can't display PNGs -- I would check and see if the problem is consistently with that type of image.

cbaggs - Are you adding graphic lines around your photos and images to give that recessed look? If so, try a test by deleting them and reloading your pages. Graphic lines touching photos has a deleterious effect in Internet Explorer. -- Fabe

I think it may be an issue with "png". I changed one of the background images to a "jpg," and that did the trick, so I will try that. I wonder why I should have to change all graphics to jpg?...anyway, we'll see what happens. Thanks for the help. If anyone else has any thoughts, let me know, thanks again.

figured it out...whenever I publish from iWeb to Dreamweaver, a transparent.gif is not transferred, so IE looks for this and can't find it; that is why the X's appear. So, I added a transparent.gif in all of the files folders, problem solved. Kinda weird that only IE looks for this.

I have the same "red x" problem but seem to have the transparent.gif files everywhere....did you also change your PNGs to JPEGs?
