I have a IMac and want to connect to it using its wifi to use an if it live wifi module I think because it broadcasts at 802.1n it won't connect can i change wifi settings to 802.1b?

I have internet sharing set up and can see the network but it times out on connection test which I believe is down to the signal?

I don't believe there are any controls for forcing the radio to operate in 802.11b mode (only).

However, presuming that the Airport radio can operate in the 2.4 GHz band, it should be backwards compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b radios. There will be a loss of performance for 'n' users if 'b' and 'g' users are sending data at the much slower 'b' and 'g' speeds.

Although this article is for Snow Leopard, maybe it will be of use:
