iPod 2nd generation turned off and won't turn back on.

Yesterday, my ipod touch (second generation) turned off then wouldnt turn back on. I was on the facebook app and then i pressed the button at the top of the ipod that makes the screen go black. I guess you could say it makes it "sleep". Anyway, I did that then two minutes later i tried hitting the button again but it wouldnt turn on. or "wakeup". I thought it had turned itself off again but i held down the button and it wouldnt turn on. Since then, the ipod wont turn on or charge. Help? (:
