How do i take a screen shot

I have a macbook pro and need to know how to take a screen shot.

I wish to take a screen shot of a map from google maps and place it in a power point presentation

Various methods. Here are some from MacRumors.

I use Preview. Preview > File > Take Screen Shot

Don't forget to attribute that map to its source -- not doing so is unfair and some may consider it plagiarism, which reflects badly on the presenter.
