Quit all Office for Mac apps (including My Day, Reminders etc)

Open Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities>Activity Monitor) select the processes (one at a time) and select Quit or Force Quit (if Quit does not Work)

I tried all the solutions above, and the many others that are posted on various other forums (involving shift keys, activity monitor, dragging and dropping apps, renaming etc). None of them worked. SyncServicesAgent and the Daemon App would reactivate evcery single time, within seconds.

What worked for me was to start the update installation and get to the point where it require syncservices etc to be closed. At this point, i DISCONNECTED FROM THE INTERNET. (I also quit syncservices and the database daemon in Activity Monitor but I don't know if that step was necessary). Then I went back ot the update installation, clicked continue and it all went fine.

So the answer seems to be: go offline.

Good luck

No, the answer is to quit the MS daemons that are running (database and syncservces), on or offline is not relevant.

You can't quit the daemons if Office is running, so exit Office first.

Dear Csound1

Many thanks for your advice. I have to say that, like many others on various forums about this issue, exiting Office and quitting the daemons simply didn't work. Even when this was done in Activity Monitor, the daemons (database and syncservices) immediately started up again, reappearing in the processes list wihtin a couple of seconds. Trying to continue with the update simply produce the same error message.

You may say that on or offline is irrelevant, but it worked for me and I encourage others to try it. Why not?

If you look at other forums, people are really pulling their hair out over this one.

Other posters (in this thread) contradict you, as do I. There is no need to go offline but all of the Office components must be exited, daemons, reminders, My Day etc, if any are running or if any Office App is running the deamons will continually reload, regardless of how many times you quit them,

OK. Well let's just agree to disagree. I did a complete restart, holding down shift, so no login items started, no office programmes were open at all. And still experienced the same problems. If you look at the other forums discussing this issue, there are many other people in the same position. It's great that your simple solution worked for those here.

All the best
