Nice article.

I've seen helpful links to helpful articles, but my laptop Pro shows no devices when I plug in my ipad 2 to try and start the backup and update to OS 5 process. (They used to sync and talk to each other just fine until I updated to a newer version of itunes.)

Did all the steps and both those things, twice. My ipad still doesn't show up as a device on itunes, although I heard the cute little sound it makes when I plug it into my laptop (Pro). They were communicating nicely until I updated itunes. (I can see what purchases I've made for my ipad on the lefthand side, but still no device recognition.) Thanks for your help, though.

If you are running Snow Leopard - also make sure that you have installed all of the uodates for it.

When I first updated my older MacBook to SL I had the same problem as you are having until I updated all the way to SL 10.6.8. Run Software Update to be sure - unless you already know that you are up to date with SL.

Nice article.
