Apple TV movie rentals disappeared immediately after rental

I rented a movie on my ATV3 and when the "ready to play" pop-up came up, I pressed "menu" so that I could watch it later. When I went back to the main menu, the movie appeared along the top row under "rented" for about three seconds and then it disappeared. I tried the "check for rentals" option and nothing happened. I tried resetting my ATV and nothing. I tried a factory restore, still nothing. I tinkered with my wireless router to see if any settings had changed, but it was still functioning exactly the way it always has and prior to this, I have never had difficulty with renting. I reset my modem and wireless router (as well as the range extender i use, which was also verified to be in working order) and yet the issue persists.

I contacted Apple support and they gave me a refund and told me to rent movies on my PC and then play them through there, but my homesharing does not seem to work either. I checked the IP addresses of all the hardware involved and they are all on the same network. I can still play the movies I purchased from the cloud, but I am not about to purchase movies that I am only willing to pay $4 for because I wont be watching them all the time. I am at a loss here. I have searched these forums like crazy and I have seen many people with simmilar problems, but none of these discussions have resolutions.

Same problem here. I have rented Mission Impossible twice now. The first time it disappeared half way through so Apple refunded me the money for the rental. The second time we decided to finish the movie and the same thing happened right away. We didn't even get to watch 1 minute of it. This is so frustrating. We use our Apple TV to rent movies exclusively and have for years now. We used to love it but now it's a matter of great frustration. I have submitted my second request for a refund on the same movie. It seems to happen when I pause my movie or anything besides play it striaght through. I have searched the forums with no luck and have tried all sorts of resets and the like to get the movie to reappear. No luck. Please Apple, fix this!!!!

Same problem, tried renting 3 random movies the last week... rented Shame TWICE, after 3-5 seconds, it disappeared from the top-left corner on the main menu. When trying to purchase again, got a message saying that I already purchased it but didn't download it, and told me to "check for rentals".

Did everything possible, including restoring, nothing worked.

Called Apple Support just to have them say its a hardware problem. I replied with "I have 3 Apple TVs at my home and ALL of them is having the same bug".

Told me to call iTunes Support > No solution so far.

I'm getting tired of this.

I've had exactly the same problem and like you, have several Apple Tv's. Apple support have refunded several movies over the last week however the last correspondence referred me to their Terms & Conditions of sale which would suggest to me that they are side stepping the issue. I'm going to speak to speak to technical support today and if I have any update from them I'll update.

I have already submitted this feedback to apple and they gave me a refund even though I specifically stated that I was more interested in getting the issue resolved than in getting a refund. I am now hoping to mine the vast community intellect for possible solutions or at least an understanding of the root cause of the issue so that if it is an issue only Apple can fix, I can more effectively communicate the problem to them in a way that allows them to focus on the root cause of the issue rather than simply handing out money.

So after making it my mission in life (no pun intended) I set out to get to finish Mission Impossible 3 last night at all costs. You can work around the problem of the disappearing rental by renting it on your computer in iTunes then going to your Apple TV and selecting that computer from the "Computers" tab/channel. Once there (you must wait for the movie to complete downloading all the way on your computer) you will see a new menu item pop up called "Rentals". You can then select your movie there and begin watching.

By the way, Mission Impossible 3 was totally not worth the effort of downloading and watching three times for anyone that cares. Drive on the other hand was great. You're welcome.

Has anyone been able to resolve this yet?

Same problem I own all three apple tv versions and same problem occurs, as soon as I rent a movie i can watch it, but if i go to main menu it disappears.

Itunes support reimbursing but not helping further.

This makes the Apple TV unusable and I can not believe Apple is ignoring the issue. Suggesting "ways around it" is not acceptable from the company we all helped make the most valuable in the world.
