Iphoto quit during upload- did I lose my pics?

Can anyone help me with uploading pics from my camera to IPHOTO on a MACbook pro?

I just uploaded my memory card via USB, when it was done it asked if should delete the originals, I said yes, because I thought it was in Iphoto, then Iphoto quit unexpectedly, when I relaunched the application, the photos appear to be gone from both Iphoto and the memory card. Someone please tell me I didn't lose them... Please! Where else can I look?
