I have no sound in avi files and get a message that I need a plug in for divx. what plug in do I need?.

I have both of these applications installed on my apple. Both the player and converter. I used MPEG Streamclip to convert a .mov file recorded on my iphone to an .avi file for playback on an internet website. After the file is converted there is no audio and I get an error message stating:
"You may need an additional video decoder to play this file.
This file contains a track in an unknown format (code ""). You may need to install a QuickTime™ component for this video format in order to play this file."
I purchased the pro version of divx to see if this addressed the issue but it did not. I'm concerned the pro version of flip 4 mac will be the same at $30.00 more dollars. Is MPEG Streamclip the problem?
It is not a problem with perian or flip4mac.
The fault is in the conversion.
If the free versions don't work, the paid versions won't work, Qtime, Flip4mac, Perian.
Why did you convert anyway, you can play .mov files.
