Sync Blackberry with ICloud

Hi,

I am using a Blackberry and an IPhone, and find it a real pain to sync contacts on both phones.

I update my contacts on ICloud by syncing the contacts on my MacBook with the Blackberry, and on ICloud , which then shows up the contacts on the IPhone.

As we all know, that using a 2 way sync between the Mac Book and the Blackberry many a times causes issues with the contacts, with old contact details (stored on the back) pop back on the Blackberry and erasing the new contacts, its quite a pain.

Someone suggested to sync the Blackberry directly with ICloud, which will then update and show all my contacts , including updated and new contacts at the same time on my MacBook and on the IPhone and vice versa.

I wish to know how I can do this.

I will also appreciate help if this can be done by any other way.

Thanks.

I've tried all the above and I still get a message telling me that either my email address or password are incorrect.

This obviously not the case as I have not changed my e mail address or password. In fact I can retrieve my email remotely but just not on my Blackberry Dtk60. When I got the phone in December last year my email worked fine. in the last 2 months I've had this frustrating message regarding the password and e mail address.

I deleted the account and tried to reinstall. I still get the same message.

Please let me know how to fix this as I am missing a lot of e mails whilst I'm on the move and having to give out a different e mail address which is very frustrating.

Even though I have the same problems like you, at a point I discovered that having activated the "2 stage authentication " for my Apple devices, was an issue. I switched it to "off" and for a time the sync problems on my BB Z30 stoped. But after an IOS update, I started having same sync problems again. I'm mentioning it just in case it manages to solve your issues. Shame a bit that in the link mentioned above, from the official BB support site, mentions April 2017 as last update date, which means they keep giving instructions that don't work for some reason.

I fear the Primeminister is correct - all worked swimmingly well as Winston used to say - til icloud came along and broke the connection. I have read many posts as to WHY this happened, some that blame Apple for being preferential to thier phone, but i doubt that - it just seems there is some gap inthe handshaking that Apple either broke or failed to include that has left thousands of Blackberrys unable ot properly sync onthe mac platform any longer. Haviing said that is now MONTHS and no resolve to what i suspect is a relatively minor fix on Apples part.

there are a few klugey workarounds but like my dad used to say - " its like going to clevelland just to make change for a dollar"

A question i have is did this also break the sync for the Android world as well?

Hello,

you can't sync on a Mac where iCloud is enabled because it "physically" removes the data files away from your computer (to "the cloud") and consequently the Blackberry desktop software cannot (logically) find any local files to sync with!...

I can't think of any "direct sync" with iCloud either, not from a Blackberry at least.

Sorry for the bad news.

You can't sync iCloud with anything, but iCloud enableddevices can be subscribed to in order to view the data they contain.

iCloud data is cached locally, so it is on your Mac.

This is probably a very theoretical approach.

All I can say is that I used until very recently a BlackBerry Bold 9900 with "BB Desktop Software" installed on my Mac and the program wasn't able to do any sync at all related to calendar and contacts when iCloud was enabled on the computer, that is a fact.

If you know a practical way to implement what you are talking about, then please provide us with your solution.

To my knowledge, direct sync between BB and iCloud is definitely not possible... in a "classic" way at least.

Correct.

Hi,

I feel that using the BB Desktop software to sync a BB and Ical is a joke.

It totally makes a mish mash of the contacts that have been edited, changing the new information on the BB to the old one on the Mac (probably thats what a 2 way sync is !)

I am scared to use the BB Desktop software now to sync.

I use it only for backups.

The BB Desktop for Windows has an option of a one-way sync, which BB Desktop for Mac does not.

That adds to the woes, since :

1) You cannot sync BB with ICloud OTA.

2) You cannot safely sync it with the Mac, because of the 2-way sync.

The best option that I found was to update the contact on the Iphone, which updates Icloud and to share the contact via Email and update the BB.

A bit stressful, but guess thats the safest way.

Any help / suggestions most welcome.

Thanks.

Well,

This is indeed quite tricky as explained above. Duplicates are very easily created either on BB and/or on Mac computer. You are right.

My "solution" was to force the sync in one direction only (from the Mac), using the BB desktop software. If my memory is correct, I achieved it by ticking one option somewhere saying "replace all records on the terminal" or something similar anyway. Now I can't remember exactly because I don't have a BB anymore...

So, I was always keeping my Mac up to date (even if it was sometimes duplicating what I had already done directly on the BB for example) and then I "forced" the replacement everytime I thought it was necessary to "sync" the BB with new items from the Mac.

I know this is far from an ideal solution, but at least, it worked out for me!

For sure, with this method, I was certain not to mess up my precious records on the Mac 😉

If this helps...

After all these days of experimenting, if I dont have the Mac on me, I add or change the contact on the Iphone only , which updates Icloud.

Then I choose the contact "Share Contact" on the Iphone and mail it to myself.

Once the mail is on the BB, I add the contact.

Have not found anything better than that yet .

I hope either Apple or Blackberry do something about this to make it simpler, since I cannot give up the BB.

I think I found something that worked for me, but you must have a Gmail account to do it pretty easy. Go to contacts and export all of them in vcard format to your desktop. Open your Gmail account and import that file.

Then go to contacts again, preferences, accounts, on my mac, and allow to sync with Google. Then it creates a new local group on your Mac, and you can sync that with your blackberry. Pretty easy
