Question about getting iPod on TV

Is it possible to have a picture display on TV, through AV adapter, but have music playing, WITH the picture on the tv, and the music coming out of the TV? My iPod won't play music on my TV, unless I have something displayed, so if I have a picture up, it should play music, but how do I do that? Or is it possible even? Any help/sudgestions would be appreciated, Main goal is to simply get music to play on TV.
