How do I set up a Time Capsule as NAS

I have a 1st Gen TC lying around and I'm wondering if I can use it as a NAS.

Simply use the airport utility manual setup.. go to internet tab.. selection connection sharing .. off bridge mode.


With the Router turned off the TC is a just a network hard disk.. with the following limitation.


It has no way to back itself up. If you store files on it.. make sure you have the files backed up elsewhere. And the nature of the device is to die suddenly and as a sealed item you are on your own as far as file recovery is concerned..


A Gen1 TC is not fast.. and no TC has anything like the normal useful stuff a NAS has, like media servers etc. It is purely AFP and SMB storage. Think Thick as a brick.
