Two-sided printing option greyed-out HP OfficeJet 7500a

Hi,

Could anyone help me? I just bought a HP OfficeJet 7500a (which does support duplex printing) and I am unable to do two-sided printing as the dropdown menu (located in layout in the print screen) is greyed-out.

Do I require a driver or anything like that?

By the way I am running Mountain Lion Developer Preview if that matters.

Thanks in advance.

You can do two-sided printing by reverting to a generic driver.

Follow steps (for OSx Lion)

1) Open System Preferences

2) Choose Printer and Scan

3) Choose OPtions & Supplies -> Driver -> Print Using -> Generic PCL Driver(drop down) and select Duplexer Checkbox

Note: I guess, the generic driver may help in simple ASCII text printing and does not print binary files such as photos, pdf documents etc.

I hit this problem with an HP 7400 and Mountain Lion.

Go to System Preferences; click on Print & Scan; select your Oficejet 7500a in the list of printers at the left; make sure Print (not Scan) is selected at the top; click on Options & Supplies; select Driver at the top; click to put in a tick against HP Two-sided Printing Accessory; click on OK; close System Preferences.

I found that I had to restart OS-X for this to take effect.

Important to note that you should try to use the correct and specific driver for the printer being used, rather than one of the generics. That way the system can know what the printer can do and fancy options such as duplex printing, envelope printing, colormatching, etc., will appear on the printer options section of the Page Setup and/or the Print dialogs.

Hi, I was wondering if you knew how to resolve this same issue of duplex printing not working but on OS Yosemite?

I have tried your instructions but when I click 'Options and Supplies' only three options come up at the top: 'General'/'Supply Levels'/'Utility'. Under 'General' It tells me my driver version: 4.5.0 but there is no option to select a driver.

Cheers
