Q: How do I change Imac OS 10.7 color depth?

Im using an Imac with Mac OS 10.7.3.  I am trying to use a Citrix to open some files but I get the error message that display is configured for 65536 colors and is not supported.  I need to us 24 or 32 bit color.  I cannot figure out how to make this change.  Under system preferences>Display I see nothing that allows me to change depth to those levels.

Intel powermac dual, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

In System Preferences, open Displays>Disply, check the Show Displays in Menubar, then in that icon in the Menubar, click on it & see if you get resolution choices with number of colors after it. Millions is what you want, we only have 16 bit (Thousands), or 32 bit (Millions) on Macs, no 24 bit as far as I know.

Got to Displays icon in menu bar.  When click on it I see the following. (see image below).  Still can't find where to choose color depth.

Okay, I switched to 1920X1440 and Citrix worked.  I don't know what the color depth is at that resolution but I have achieved my goal so I don't really need to know.  All I know is that that setting is supported by Citrix.  Thanks for you help.

Ah yes, just checked 10.7.x & as usual, any important info is missing as some kind of improvement.

Glad to hear you got it working though, thanks for the report!

    Hi,

It's been a while since you solved it, maybe you can help me out. I have the same problem, I cannot open certain pictures in a remote desktop, and I receive the same error message.

If I try the instructions as proposed in 2012, I have the following problem: the maximum depth I can choose in the display settings is 1440x900. Also, I don't have a display icon in my menu bar. I use a Mac OS X 10.9.5 and as far as I understand, it should have a 64 bit depth.
