Q: Starting somewhat all over again. How?

Last fall using an iPad 1 (iOS 5) with a 17" MacBook Pro (10.6.8) and iPhone 4 (iOS 5).

Near beginning of year iPad was lost during a move. iPhone kept updating itself by

using the iStore app and entering the AppleID/PW. Recently sold MBP 17" that I

deauthenticated iTunes on never thinking about what that might mean for iPhone & iPad.

Also recently bought a PC gaming monster, please no arrows, and found the iPad 1.

Now I just again updated my apps fine on my iPhone.

For the iPad I switched the user from my me.com acct to my AppleID account.

I deleted my me.com account & signed up for iCloud using the iPad.

In doing so I got a new free me.com account for mail. I can also seem

to update my apps from the iStore app on the iPad. Now :

1. It still shows the 17" MBP as the laptop to sync to. How do I get it

to use iTunes that I will place on the new pc soon? Also, how do I get

my iPhone/iPad apps to it? It seems obvious I would use Purchased on iTunes

when it's in place on the pc, but I just want to be sure.

2. No matter what I try Mail always trys to log me in using my old, deleted, me.com acct.

How do I get it to use my new free iCloud acct? Also, why does iCloud need me.com

when I thought me.com was going bye-bye?

A:

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPad/iPhone. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore it from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.

Do this:

Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPad/iPhone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPad/iPhone without syncing.

Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.

When you connect your iPad/iPhone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.

Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPad/iPhone for the first time.

Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

As for you mail account, did you try to set up a new mail account on your devices using the info of your new iCloud account?
