I started having issues when launching a game room on POGO.com a few days ago. I'm getting an error message saying I have an unsupported version of Java. I've tried updating software and it shows there are no updates due. Any suggestions on what can fix this issue?

Open Java Preferences and click Restore Defaults. If that doesn't fix your problem then the site you are connecting to must have updated their requirements for a later java version and there would be nothing you could do on your end to fix it. Apple is always behind in updating java (for example, fixing the java hole that let flshback through).
I think I read that future support fo apple java will come directly from Oracle. Hopefully they will be more timely.
Clear the historoy & cache of the browser you using for Pogo games. Repair permissions and restart your computer. Try the site again. If still having issues, follow the instructions on Pogo's tech support site in the Mac section.
Thanks for your response. I've clicked on restore defaults and it did not work. Is there anyway of downloading an updated version of Java even if it does not show up on updates?
No. As I said there is nothing you can do on your end. The apple version of java is not the "standard" java since apple always has to add their stuff to it for OSX. If software update doesn't say it needs:
Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8
then I assume you already have that installed and that is apple's "current" version of java.
Followed the suggestion and it still does not work. I'll try the POGO tech support as you suggested. Thank you for your help!

Andrew - if your issue is with POGO and Java then go to the POGO help area and they have specific instructions that will fix your ability to play games.
Just to share - both Chrome and Safari could not run Java.
Did what one of you suggested:
> opened a new Finder window
> searched "Java"
> scrolled down to the "Java Settings" maybe "Java options"/"Java Valg" (in Norwegian)
> restored the general settings under each tab "general" and "Network" - now everything runs perfectly again.

How can I get Safari to recognise Java?
I have Windows 7.
I am trying to play Yahoo Bridge using Safari.
When I go to the page https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?.intl=uk&.src=ga&.done=http://uk.pl ay.yahoo.com/games/login%3fgame=Bridge, I get a dialogue box with the message “Java is unavailable – The page Yahoo Games attempted to load Java, but Java is available or not installed. Do you want to … download Java?”
Java is installed. It works with Firefox.
