Q: When i insert my sim into the iPhone, i get a message that reads "invalid sim"

When i insert my sim into the iPhone, i get a message that reads "invalid sim", and the phone shows a "no service" message. what do i need to do to resolve this?

iPhone 4 (8GB), iOS 5.1

Obtain a sim from the carrier your phone is locked to.

Thanks for that. However, the phone was not locked to any carrier when it was purchased.

Well, that error message generally means that's not the case. Where, exactly did you get this phone?

I'll try to get it sorted today. i bought the device in Oxford, UK, but using it in Zimbabwe.

Unless you purchased your phone directly from Apple(the ONLY source for unlocked iPhones in the UK), it is in fact carrier locked.

You're welcome.

I hope you do get things sorted. Bear in mind, only the carrier an iPhone is locked to can authorize the phone's official unlocking.
