Q: LED Cinema Display Flickering; Firmware Update Won't Install

My LED Cinema Display (24-inch, Late 2008 (1920 x 1200), AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB graphics) keeps flickering. I've downloaded and attempted to install the firmware update, but keep getting an error that says I don't need this update. Any suggestions? I've looked over the cords, et ... Runs as second monitor on new iMac running Lion.

Maybe the monitor is failing.  Can you try it on another machine?

Conversely can you try another monitor on your machine just to rule out a failing video port.

I also have the same Cinema display and have had the flickering problem plus black screen plus freeze ups and what I call, "quilting." This is not pixelating, but the screen looks like it was cut up into smaller squares and then randomly re-assembled into a "quilt." At this point, and I never know when this is going to happen, it is not possible close any screens and I have to power off. This happens when I connect the display to either an early (March) or late (December) 2011 13" MacBook Pro. It NEVER happened when the display was connected to a late model 2009 13" MacBook Pro. I would be happy with only the flickering if anyone knows how to take care of the other problems. I have spent 35+ hours either at the local genius bar or on the phone with Apple Care and no one has been able to figure out this problem.

YES - Exactly. So odd - the two computers I have connected this monitor to are both iMacs.

I haven't had a change to try a different monitor with the same computer as suggested, however, I have tried the monitor with a different computer, and see the same problems.
