Q: After repair, I can't use Aperture (it won't accept upgrade SN, and I no longer have original!)

After getting my Macbook Pro back from the Osaka Apple Store with a new logic board, Aperture asked me to reenter my Serial Number.  Unfortunately, it won't take the upgrade number I got with Aperture 3.0... and I threw away all the 2.0 documentation and packaging when I bought the upgrade to save space.   Is there any way around this?  It is quite frustrating.  I bought the Macbook Pro with the Aperture software already installed, so is there a way for Apple to check the purchase record and get me either the original or a replacement serial number for my computer?  I am a photographer as a hobby, but between the time it was broken, the time I was waiting to get it back, I've got about 60 GB of photos I need to get edited.  This is incredibly frustrating.   I'd like the issue delt with as quickly as possible and would appreciate any help.

Sincerely,

-Kevin

See Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers

Apple is usually pretty good in getting this squared away.

    good luck

    >o< I purchased my computer more than 18 months ago from the apple webstore... there doesn't seem to be any way to check purchases made that long ago on the apple website.  Nor is there any email support number I can find.  They have a 1-800 number, but I'm living in Japan.  This situation is very frustrating.  I really needed access to my photos for work tomorrow, but now I can't reach them.  Do you happen to have an email support address for apple?  I've never before been so frustrated with owning apple.  I don't see any reason for an 18 month limit on online orders, the amount of data in an order is miniscule.  Aperture is basically holding my entire collection of photographs hostage at the moment.

The best I can find is the email form here Pro Application Serial Numbers

If you can't call then this seems like your next best bet.

    good luck

Aperture is basically holding my entire collection of photographs hostage at the moment.

as a work-around - until you have the serial number back - you might use the previews in the Media Browser.

If you are lucky, you can browse your Aperture library from iPhoto

iPhoto menu bar -> File -> Show Aperture Library

or the iWorks applications  Pages / Keynote should show your Aperture library.

As a last ressort open the Aperture library package (select the package in the finder, ctrl-click, Show Package contents).

Then double click the subfilder "Masters". In this folder you should find all your original master image files, organized by the date of import to Aperture. Copy the images you need for work tomorrow.

    Good luck
