touchpad not working

The touchpad on my wife's MacBook Air is not working anymore. I've tried resetting the computer numerous times with no luck. Is this a "take it to the Apple Store" event?

Thanks!

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Had the same problem here: keyboard and mousepad suddenly stopped working, this soon after having been "awoken" from sleep mode.

First, I shut down the MBA and plugged in a USB mouse and a USB keyboard. After the reboot, these were detected and I was able to control my MBA with them.

Then I followed the instructions on this Apple Support page : Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

Step #2 did the trick for me:

Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.

Hope that helps.
