DVD player not working

Recently I haven't been able to play DVDs on my Mac. When I insert a DVD I hear it spinning around but then it ejects. Any ideas why?

Im having this issue too SO CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON - I have IMAC mid2011 and when I add a DVD is says THE DISK YOU INSERTED CANNOT BE READ BY THIS COMPUTER it does this with every single Disc that I insert...... So I went to the apple bar with another issue and they completly flattened and reinstalled OS from scratch. Got home and sat for a long while reinstalling all my own software that I use for my business... Then guess what,..... DVD still dont work. So off I went and bought an off the shelf MAC DVD/RW at great expense. GUESS what, Plugged it in and hey presto STILL UNABLE TO READ DVD's so this is not a hardware issue, this is a software thing so... MAC SORT IT OUT and tell us how to get this back online, oh and will you refund my cash for a useless DVD/RW??

My sympathies. I wish I knew the answer. What I do know though is that my Apple MacBook Pro is an overrated expensive lump that is stuck a time warp, and has way more problems than my $200 windows xp netbook.

I still have no solution to my DVD drive failing to read any DVD despite an Apple "genius" swapping it for a new drive (he then returned the original and told me it was a software problem). No point in me going through what you have been through again. Plenty of people have reported back the same problem on this forum but no-one has the definitive solution, even after reinstalling everything. Apple have no solution but they are happy to let us spend thousands on the machines which clearly have defective functionality. Theres nothing like getting great after sales support for something like this - and yes, this is nothing like great after sales support.

For me, if Logic Pro had have been also available for Windows PC then I would not have wasted my money, time and effort on this shiny lump of metal that has never worked fully from the start.

Hi!

Be happy your dvd-player takes in the discs, mine is completely dead after installing Mountain Lion 🙂. The system informations says that the dvd-player is powered off but I can not understand why and how it should happen after installing 10.8.5? I seems that Apple is closing onto Microsoft in their bugged OSXs and no reply or feedback you get from them about the problem.

My machine is almost 4 years old but has been fully functional (almost) before installing the ML.

The following is the description of my MaccBook Pro;

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,4

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2,53 GHz

Number of Processors: 1

Total Number of Cores: 2

Hardware UUID: 0AA7865E-D828-5E9D-A7F5-3B1D8EABB498

Sudden Motion Sensor:

State: Enabled

and this one is the system information about the dvd-player. As you see the dvd-player is powered off.

So does anyone has any idea about how to solve the problem?

This forum is for a 10-year old version of OS X called Panther, that only ran on PPC Macs.

Your problem is not the same as that of the original poster of this old thread, and it can be very confusing for everybody if we try to answer more than one question in each thread.

In order for us to give your problem our undivided attention to try to solve it, would you kindly start your own thread, describing the trouble you are having in the fullest detail, including completing your details to show what Mac you are using, what operating system, and what version of the application in question. Please remember to post in the forum relevant to your hardware or version of OS X.

So, if the problem is solved (per the green checkmark & the word "solved") would you please be kind enough to share your solution with those of us who have NOT had the problem solved?

I have done every thing recommended in these community suggestions and I still cannot plat a DVD with my apple DVD Player.app!

My OS is 10.9.5 (Mavericks) My optical superdrive: Optiarc DVD RW AD-5680H

The DVD Player.app is Version 5.7
