All audiobooks will no longer sync on iPhone.

I have used the iphone to listen to my audiobooks since I got my first iphone. Lately (out of the 300 plus) books I have, only about 6 will sync. I can check them and it stays checked but they will not transfer. This included some of the ones that I have had on it before. I have even tried to sync all audio books, but only the same few will transfer. During transfer there is no mention of the checked (and applied) books (changes).

I have latest update (from today) on my phone and latest itunes. I have also done a hard reset AND restore on my phone. Any ideas?

Hmmm. Are you sure you have six books selected? Generally when you set Selected audiobooks and have an item checked in the Audiobooks list, the tracks to sync will appear in the Parts list. Here I've checked The Affair, and the Parts list shows what will sync:

I don't see anything in the Parts panel in your screenshot, so that strikes me as suspicious. Do you by any chance have the Sync only checked songs and videos option set on the Summary panel?

And then have your audiobooks unchecked? Here I've unchecked Hunger Games and Pronto because I've listened to them, and don't want them to sync to my iPhone anymore:

The checked tracks are still eligible to sync; the unchecked tracks won't sync, no matter what I do in the Audiobooks sync settings section.

HTH!

I do have it checked because I want to limit the books copied. When a specif book is highlighted (like your "The Affair" exapmle), the parts show up like yours. I also uncheck the parts as listen to them (some I listen to have 6 or more parts).

Even if I select all books, it will only copy the selec few. I have tried many combination of books. It will let me check, then completely ignore (books do not show up as copying or trying to copy in itunes).

I unchecked and "apply". It did what it should have and removed the one book I had on iphone. I then rechecked "sync audiobooks" and selected 5 random books and one of the ones I knew would sync. During the sync it copied the one book and never even showed anything about the others. When it was copying the one book it actually showed 1 of 1 even though itunes showed 6 sudio books selected.

Update - I deleted one of the audiobooks from my computer and redownload it from audible. It will now sync. I guess this is a workaround, but I have over 300 books so redownloading will be a long, LONG process. No idea what is happening. itunes reconizes them as books, allows me to play them (on the computer) and allows me to check the to sync, but then ignores them when syncing. Strange...

Ah! Now that you describe the basic resolution, I would bet that your existing audiobooks are in one of Audible's formats that is not supported on the iPhone. I know that Type 4 and Enhanced do work on the iPhone in the iPod / Music app, and those are the only two formats supported by the Audible iPhone app, but I've never tried any of the other, lower-bitrate options. Audible's device center says that the iPhone can play all Audible formats except Type 1: http://www.audible.com/dc?mt=SPH&mfid=51

If this is indeed the problem, you should have received an error message along the lines of:

Some of the items in the iTunes library, including "Name of Title", were not copied to the <Device> "<Device Name>" because they cannot be played on this <Device>.

Is it possible you got that message once, and checked the "Don't show this message again" option in the message dialog? If you want to see this kind of message in the future, you'll need to reset your warnings: Preferences > Advanced > [Reset warnings].

Anyway, great that you solved it!

I went in and reset warning and tried to sync. It still allowed me to check the book to be synced and changed the number of books to sync, but did not even try to sync the book. There was no warning.

I then check the format that I have of the audible books and it is type 4 (on all of my audible books). Also, these are books that I have had on my iphone in the past. I use itunes on the iphone to play them instead of the audible ap (never tried it).

By all rights, it should work like it always has. Something has changed I am sure, just no idea what. I really appreciate all of your research and help.
