Q: Mac Mini does not wake Cintiq

Update: The same problem happens with a different monitor and the same MDP to DVI adaptor.

So my best guess is that the problem is either with the adaptor or with the Thunderbolt port itself. I ordered a new adapter to test.

Meanwhile, I'm using the HDMI to DVI-D adapter that came with the Mini, along with a DVI-D to DVI-I adapter and that works fine. But that's a workaround and does not resolve my original problem.

The Apple adapters are DVI-D and the Cintiq is DVI-I so it wouldn't work without the second DVI-D to DVI-I adapter. I chose the third party to avoid the need to daisy chain adapters (which works, but isn't pretty).

Out of curiosity, I compared the tech specs for both Macs, under Graphics and video support.

There's no mention for or against using a Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter in the 2011 model. But OWC lists its adapter as compatible with the 2011 model. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/CBLMDPDVI/

The DVI-I is a male connector, and it has the extra analog pins which prevent me from using the DVI-D female connector. The analog pins are not used in my case, but Wacom probably included them to be compatible with the VGA adaptor.

I got a new MDP to DVI-I adapter and it works fine. I don't know why the Startech adapter worked with the 2009 mini but not with the 2011. Startech tried to sell me a much more expensive active adapter, but I think that's unnecessary and even the Apple adapter is passive.
