Q: PhotoBooth not working.

Hey all :-)

I can't get Photobooth to work. I launch the app and the window shows up normally, but the iSight doesn't seem to be activating - no green light next to the actual camera on the lid, and no image in the Photobooth window, either. I even tried waiting a little while, because past experience has shown that sometimes it takes a few moments to initialize, especially if I've got tons going on. But, no luck. I found a forum thread (elsewhere) where somebody had the same problem, but before he got a reply he reported that after a night in sleep mode it was working okay again. The problem is I would prefer not to wait that long if possible; I could really use the thing tonight :-/

I'm on a late '07 whitebook running 10.6.8. Any advice appreciated :-)

    •  If you have not already done so, restart Mac and

try again.  If the iSight still does not work, continue.

    • If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090

suggestions do not help you, (are you certain that you

used the correct "reset" procedure?), yours is most likely a

hardware problem that will require a professional fix.

Unless you have a current backup, make one now.

Then use the final "Troubleshooting" suggestion:

"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."

    • If you want to try one more thing on your own first,

use Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then

download and apply the latest Combo Update for

your OS.  Currently, the latest SL Combo is here:

        http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399

    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart

       that completes the Combo update.

Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, get help from your AASP.  There are no user serviceable parts of iSight hardware.
