iCloud email down - 8th May 06:30 GMT UK

Started a new thread for this, although posted on a previous thread as well.

Powered up the Mac Pro this morning, launched email app and no email, no fiolders nothing in sent box. Only mail I could see was archive folders I'd moved to my local machine.

Went to iCloud... email also missing, junk, sent inbox etc all there but empty and all the folders I'd created missing. Checked my iPhone - all missing.

As I work from home and use my email address for business, I estimate over 20,000 emails from the past 6 years have gone.

Anyone else having problems this morning?

Totally gutted.

Just got off th ephone to Apple Support.

It is an Apple issue, it would appear that maybe one of th email stores went down as the same thing has happens to a lot of other accounts.

If I look at some of the info.plist files in the mail folder(s) they all have the same creation date... today at 06:32 which is when I turned on my MacPro and opened up email.

I have not tried a restore from Time Machine, as the mail files do exist... just not with mail in them!

My call has been escellated to Apple Engineers along with the other calls the Support team people had logged.

If I find out more, I'll post back here.

Apparently (well according to th eguy I spoke too) the Supprt Team can restore mail in your mailbox (Inbox, Sent, Trash & Junk) but if you have created folders in you xxxxx@me.com or mac.com account, they don;t have access to these, but the Engineering team do and should be able to restore them.

Apparently you can continue to use mail as it should be stable and not do a vanishing trick again.

This happened to my daughter last night (she is at college) - and she is in the middle of finals, and needed an email with finals instruction in it. It hasn't happened to the 3 other accounts we have - We had our mac.com accounts forever, and no problems. We have all gradually moved to the cloud - my daughter just last week. Now this.

I hope they get this cleared up - this is ridiculous.

I'm also on iCloud and had the same thing happen. Only my support person was not as helpful. He has escalated to Apple engineers and indicated he wouldn't be able to restore my data. He said the tool they have can only restore mail that has been deleted. The 26 mails he was able to restore were all the items I deleted about an hour ago.

Fortunately I do have a time machine back up from Sunday night.

I was surprised to learn that even thouogh I have the "keep messages for offline viewing" feature selected, that is not the same as automatically storing locally.

Apparently the only way to do that is either drag the content to you "On My Mac" folder, or set up an auto rule to do the same. Massive fail. This is at least one thing that MSFT has done better than Apple; at least in MSFT Outlook you can set default local copy in preferences.

Me too. All .me email is gone prior to 7am this morning. I'm on the west coast of US (if that matters). Spoke to tech support, and although it took a while to get an answer, I was told that the demand for iCloud exceeded expectations, and that they were migrating over to larger / better servers. This is affecting a select set of customers, and would be resolved in "a few hours". Needless to say, I'm not impressed. This could have been handled better at many levels. Let's hope that it's back up soon. This is a huge inconvenience and distraction.

Hi !

On May, 7 I got the same issue with my iPhone 4S and firmware 5.1.1 update.

All mail are lost !!!

I got an Apple Protection Plan, and after the ticket of this evening I hope Apple Tech can restore all my data.

AAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhrrrgggg !!!

Why I choosen iCloud?

Answer:

Because I thought to solve backup issues... however...frustration!

Keep in touch.
