My daughter uses a Sony docking station for her iPod and it has been working fine Since Xmas but suddenly it has stopped working. The iPod is charging from the docking station, works if you connect it with a cable and the iPod dock shows up as connected on the iPod but no sound at all when in the dock. Any ideas?

Did it happen after updating the iOS version on the iPod?
Have you went to Sont's support site?
Try the standard fixes:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod

No, I had not changed or updated anything. I had looked at the Sony sight but nothing very useful, is the power on, is it on mute etc. I had tried a reset but no change. If I do a restore it will wipe everything on my daughters iPod won't it and there is no guarantee that will work anyway so probably easier just to use the cable to connect to the dock. It's strange because it powers from the dock and the iPod recognises the dock but just no sound coming out. Thanks anyway.
Try a restore from backup. As long as all the syned media )apps, music) is in your iTunes library, the iPod will be like it was when the backup was made.
You can also restore to factory defaults/new iPod and then if that does not owrk restore from backup. Make sure that authorosyncing is turned off otherwise the backup with the information might be overwritten by the restore tofactory defaults/new iPod. To turn off go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says "Prevent iPods....syncing".
I would try unplugging the Sony from the power supply, waiting for ten seconds and then plugging it back in. Does that make any difference?
I suggest this because my Bose Sound Dock sometimes gives no sound. After unplugging and re-powering it, it works.
I got the same problem with sony docking station. It was working properly.
Now, have no sound from the dock.

funnily enough i just did a software upgrade to my Ipod touch and the same thing has happened, my Bose docking station connects to it but no sound, have tried all the above but to no avail
I have the same issue... it just stopped working.
Reset did not help.
In the end it turned out the problem was a damaged pin in the iPod which is just about visible. It still charges and otherwise functions OK. Now have to connect it by cable which is a pain.
