Hello FCP Gurus,

So I just bought FCP-X, not thinking that it would effect my current beloved FCP7.  But low and behold, after installing, it reduced my FCP7 to FCP5!  And then when I downloaded the ProApps update 2010-02 to upgrade back to 10.7, it told me that my computer doesn't need the update!  So now I have all my FCP7 projects that can't be opened in FCP5 because they're "too new!"  Any suggestions???

Thanks!

I seem to recall somewhere on this forum that if you are using FCPX you need to create a new folder in your apps name it something like FCS and relocate your FCS apps into the folder. Don't know if this will solve your problem, is it even possible to go from 7 to 5?

No - I'm trying to go from 5 to 7!  Installing FCPX for some reason tooke me from 7 to 5.  Now I'm trying to get back up to 7 again!

Yeah - great.  Well I've already installed FCP-X onto my startup disk - guess I didn't realize you had to do it this way but can't believe I'm the only person with this problem...

If you have the discs for FCP3 I would re install then re install FCPX,( I believe you could uninstall FCPX and then re download.)

    Yes you can.

The App Store already knows that you paid for FCPX.

Kill it all with FCP Remover from digitalrebellion.com, load FCS 2009 first, run all updates and then grab FCPX from the Store.

    Nick and David,

Thanks for all this - greatly appreciated - all so I can just get ONE XML file exported from FCP7.0.3!  I actutally just got off phone with Apple Support, who told me the only way I could have 7.0.3 is if I had bought 7.0 at some point - but I swear I bought 5 and then upgraded to 7 using software upgrade - I have no 7.0 disks!  So he sold me a disk over the phone for $16!  And then he gave me the same instructions - dump everything, install FCP7 first, run software update, then go back and reinstall FCPX... Sheesh!

BTW, I sent him the link you sent me David, and he balked and said, wow that's way out of date and sent it upstairs to take offline!

    Thanks again guys...

FCP 5.x, whether the stand alone or as part of Final Cut Sutudio is a pay for upgrade to FCS 2009 - which includes FCP 7. You didn't get it via Apple Software Update.

FCS 2009 is a set of disks (7 or 8 DVDs, dunno exactly, my set is in a safe deposit box at my bank)

$16 bucks? Tell him I'll buy a truck load at that price. These babies were $300 if you had a prior version, $1000 if not. What kind of people are manning the Apple support lines these days? In my day, you had to know every single product not only blindfolded but after being beaten senseless, hit with sticks, then drowned in a bucket and spat upon by Windows gamers. Pffft!

"I have a iPhone, tight jeans, a Justin Beaver haircut and horn rimmed spectacles"... Welcome to Apple.

They used to employ people who knew what they were talkng about. For shame Apple. For shame.

Now, get off my lawn you youngsters.

It's 16 bucks a DISK.  I'm just buying "Disk One" because I only need FCP7!

  • Nick Holmes Level 7 (29,990 points)

    Ouch.

And the FCP 7 disc is supposed to work with the rest of your FCS 1 suite?

    Danger, Will Robinson!

  • Matinicus Rock Level 1 (110 points)

I actually don't care about the rest of the suite - I just need to get to FCP7 so I can generate this ONE XML file...
