convert Apple lossless to MP3

I have imported my CD's in iTunes as Apple Lossless files.

Now I want to burn a playlist to a CD as MP3 files.

iTunes says this can't be done as the files are not Mp3 files. So far I understand.

Is there a way to convert the ACC files to Mp3 in iTunes?

I don't want to take out every CD and import the selected files again as MP3 as this will be a lot of work.

I use iTunes version 10.6.1 (7) 64 bits on a Mac.

( the solutions that I found in this forum date from 2010. I think that iTunes has changed since I can't find the recommended settings.)

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7; 8GB Memory

A playlist is just a pointer to the tracks in the main library, so there's no way that could happen. You could, however, make a Smart Playlist with "kind" "contains" "MPEG audio". That will get all the MPEG tracks in a single list. Then select them all, hold down the Option key, and press the Delete key. You'll be asked if you want to remove the tracks from the library. That'll make it easier, at least.
