Here's an aid to learning FCP X keyboard shortcuts.

I came across this item ten days ago but can't remember whether it was as a result of a recommendation or a google search!

The chart looks incredibly complex and illegible at first glance but if you save it, you can enlarge it to any size and a few moments study reveals all (or should do).

I guess you can't edit any more. Loren has been making KeyGuides for years for FCP and many other apps.

Miss Loren is a man!

However, before you start jumping to lurid conclusions, I think you will find that Loren is a man's name . . . . not to be confused with Lauren.

After what Tom said I have looked into it and Loren Miller appears to have created a number of slightly similar charts for legacy versions of FCP but I can find no trace of him creating an FCP X one.

During my life I have discovered many scientific and philosophical facts and invented numerous items from equipment to jokes, only to discover, to my dismay, that it had all been done before.

So in this case, I suspect that 2 people (or maybe millions) have had similar ideas, though as I mentioned above, Loren does not appear to have made one for FCP X.

... so, as a huge Magic Trackpad fan as I am, I'm using no keyboard at all!! (ok, ... almost 😉 ...)

... for sure, you miss thousands of FCPX' features, using no keyboard, but for a first rough cut, that Minority Report stearing is nice.-

That seemed fantastic.

I was heading to Amazon (ten pounds cheaper than Apple!), but hesitated and decided to watch Brother Chong's video all the way through.

Possibly a good move.

Once he started "editing" with the trackpad I wasn't too impressed.

Presumably he is a good editor and an expert with the trackpad?

His progress seemed clumsy and the pad appeared horribly complicated.

What chance would I have?

OK, the zooming of the timeline was impressive but that was about all.

I need something a bit more peruasive to get me to part with my wedge.

what makes the MTP better than a mouse is its ergonomics, try it in a shop:

• when I use a mouse, i don't swing the whole arm across the table, but set the speed to very fast - so, 90% all movement comes from the wrist => exactly so you use the MTP

• clicking mouse with the thumb ( ! ) and moving the fingers is a surprisingly 'natural' motion - it is really easy to 'hold/grab' something and move it around.

• a right-click is two-fingers tap plus selecting the item with 1 fingers ... super simple

• two-fingers/three fingers .... you need a few minutes, but e.g. on web-sites I'm incredible fast scrolling up/down (2 fingers), or back 'n forth (3fingers)

... and all that with a relaxed, on the table resting wrist, and due to minimal highth, relaxed fingers. So, no itsy-bitsy petting of a tiny trackpad, but full motion.-

the Magic Mouse was a flop, but the Magic Trackpad is fun to use.

plus, in my case, I'm a lil' handicapped on left ... for sure, a both handed, blind tapping operator is mucho faster than me .... 😁

I forgot to mention it yesterday but I noticed what appeared to be a glaring error on keys 1, 2 and 3.

The audio + video, video only and audio only keyboard shortcuts are coloured blue which means you use the alt key as a modifier.

Surely they should be green as it should be the shift key that is the modifier?

Anyone noticed any other mistakes?

OK, what about this interesting app called KeyCue ?

It claims to contain every single keyboard shortcut for every Mac app icncluding the OS and Desktop etc. etc.

Using it is simplicity itself.

Whatever app you are operating you just hold down the cmd key (if you can remember 😉) and a couple of seconds later a HUD appears containing all the keystrokes.

This is what I see when I am editing in FCP X and hold down cmd
