No visible footage in FCP Viewer

Hi,

I have recenly purchased FCP X and have only imovie knowledge and experience. After downloading and updating the software I imported some of my iMovie files into FCP. After doing so, the viewer was blank (I expected to see my selected clips in there) - then when I selected to play a clip FCP froze. I had to force quit as the FCP was now 'Not Responding'.

I tried numerous times with the same result. I seem to be able to do other functions such as cuts, edits, transitions etc but when I press Play it freezes.

I thought it may be the clip files, but I just inserted a title with no clip to see if that would work but experienced the same result. So far I have not been able to view a single clip in the viewer and will get the Not Responding each and every time I try to play.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Update:

After some advice, I set up another User on my imac and transferred one of the movie clips via a usb stick. FCP worked perfectly when using the new User profile. I returned to my original profile and verified and repaired disks, and also reinstalled FCP but it still continued to experience the same problem.

At least I know I can use the program at the moment, but I really don't want to be logging in and out of my imac user profiles every time I want to use FCP.

Any advise on how I could deal with this given this new information Tom?

Cheers

Clearly there is some setting or plug-in that is specific to your user account that is causing this. It is sometimes hard to pinpoint what, but here is a possibility:

Maybe there is some old Quicktime plug-in that is causing havoc. Take a look inside

~/Library/Quicktime, where ~ is your home folder. If there is something in there, try moving it to the desktop, log out and back in and see if it makes a difference.
