Letters are repeated when I am writing

go to System prefs>keyboard and mouse>keyboard and you can adjust thoose sliders to your liking.

Where it says "Delay until repeat", try moving the lever to "Long". You can test this by typing in the box that says "Type here to test settings".

If you're still getting letters repeating, then move the lever all the way to "off". If it's "off", you'll aways get only one letter when you push down a key, no matter how long you hold the key down.

No, I have the exact same problem with my new iMAC (and in discussions here previously a few others confirmed the same thing.)

I have set my keyboard prefs "dellay until repeat" to OFF and as you can see in this reply, I am still getting the repeated characters often.

I fear I may have to get a new keybooard (thhere iit goes again!) but I am beginning to wonder if it is application specific. If I goo into textedit and try typing something like "o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o" etc. (alternatiing a character with a space to try and catch it, I never see it. So I will have trouble demonstrating it at my dealer.

I got the same problem with my Mac Mini Core Duo, the Wireless keyboard I ordered with it was faulty like that and constantly disconnected, so I went tot eh Apple Store and they replaced it for me. Works like a charm now.

I've got the same problem with my iMac 20" G5, I was on the Apple Chat line yesterday. They had me try doing a reset on the PRAM, NVRAM and SMU. No luck I still have the problem. Time for me to call service.

Since that time, I have borrowed an Apple keyboard from a friend's B&W G4 tower and it did NOT do it. So I proceeded to get my keyboard replaced under warranty. It does the same thing. I then visited a couple of dealers and tried alternate keyboards. The Macally slim keyboard didn't cause this when connected to a G5 tower but when moved to the Intel iMac it started repeating characters (although not as badly as the Apple keyboard. Another dealer spent a lot of time with me (on the Apple keyboard on an Intel iMac and came to the conclusion my typing style brings out the problem. She suggested raising my wrists and I now have a rolled up towel in front of the keyboard to rest my hands on. If that works, I can buy one of those gel filled hand rests made for the purpose. At the moment, though, I am not convinced because I still see characters repeated. And I had the "delay until repeat" slider in prefs set to "OFF"! So I am hoping that perhaps a future release of the OS may magically change something to make this go away.

Those of you with this problem wouldn't be using wireless keyboards would you?

I have a Kensington Wireless Desktop and the keyboard would start repeating letters when the batteries were getting low. Putting in freshly charged batteries always solved this problem for me.

Not me. In my case I have the supplied Apple keyboard that came with my 20" Intel iMac.

I am having the same problem with a power book g4. It seems to only occur while typing online. I tried in textedit and got no repeats. It seems also to be worse when the computer is cold.???? Any input would be appreciated. I have repeat turned of completely and certain keys are worse offenders.

Just an an update to this problem as it has affected me since I got the computer in January. I opened a case with Apple after the warranty replacement keyboard did the same repeating thing. They had me do some tests, then an Archive and Install of the OS which made no difference. Then the choices were to replace the keyboard (AGAIN) or take the iMac to the dealer to have the USB board replaced (is it a separate board?) Neither route appealed to me. So I bought a Macally iKey Slim keyboard and now no more repeating characters.

I am so hating this. It is nearly impossible for me to write and I NEED to write on my PowerBook 15 inch G4 as I'm on the road. It is so frustrating. My computer has word 5 running on OS9. I have OSX and Netscape. It doesn't happen here right now but when typing a name for a picture in Adobe PhotoShop it repeats. It repeats in Word 5 and some times I get as many as seven repeat letters. It has to be software as I have no issues now and can type here as fast as I want. It can't be the keyboard. Could this be a corruption of some Microsoft software?

I'm off the road now and I so hate what is happening I'm thinking of giving up Mac and going to a PC. There is more support and less speculation on th PC side. I hate the thought of a virus though.

I have to write and this is killing me. It can't be a hardware problem. It is software. It started in Word. I'm not liking the Microsoft people any better these days.
